Gilden Way, Harlow

Boyer Planning are acting for a consortium of house builders, comprising Barratt Strategic, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey, promoting land north of Gilden Way, Harlow for residential-led mixed use development. The site is allocated as a Special Restraint Area, excluded from the Green Belt and safeguarded to meet future development needs within the Adopted Harlow Local Plan.

Having confirmed retention of this designation through the Local Plan Inquiry, Boyer Planning submitted a planning application for approximately 1,200 dwellings, and associated commercial and community uses in 2011. The application, which was supported by an Environmental Statement, argues that release ahead of the Local Development Framework is warranted on account of the significant shortage of housing land supply despite the growth agenda in Harlow, coupled with the in-principle acceptance of the site’s suitability for development.

An appeal against non-determination has recently been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate, with the Inquiry scheduled for 8 days commencing in July 2012.
