Boyer Planning was instructed by Colchester Institute to prepare and submit a planning application for a new educational facility relating to music and theatre. Colchester Institute work with local support groups to offer opportunities to those who are currently not in education, employment or training. The approach is intended to assist students in developing general educational and technical skills through association with music and theatre. Colchester Institute therefore had particular requirements to be taken into account, including an accessible location and a unit of an appropriate height for lighting rigs and theatre sets.
The planning application involved a change of use for an industrial unit in Clacton's main employment area.
The facility will cater for about 80 students drawn from the Clacton urban area, where at present there is no such facility. Provision of the facility in Clacton therefore requires less travel by students and provides distinct sustainability benefits.
