Acting for Scottish and Southern Electricity Plc, Boyer Planning have secured the renewal of an earlier permission obtained by the company in 2007 involving erection of 30 dwellings on a sports ground. The sports ground is well used and managed by a Club comprising former employees of the company. The scheme comprises a package of proposals which will ensure the retention and enhancement of the principal recreation and leisure facilities and, through a Section 106 Agreement, provide security of tenure for the Bournemouth Electric Club to manage the premises.
Although Boyer Planning achieved an allocation for this form of development in the Local Plan in 2002, the key issue raised by the application was how to meet national policy requirement (PPG17) and overcome the objections of Sport England. SSE Plc are now expected to market the housing site.
