Our advice to the Council considered the rigour with which the applicant had assessed available and suitable alternative in centre and edge of town centre sites and reviewed the quantitative and qualitative retail impact evidence to establish whether the proposed new stores would have a significantly adverse impact upon Herne Bay and Whitstable town centres. We also advised on appropriate planning conditions to control the range of non-food comparison goods which could be sold and the overall amount of floorspace allowed for the sale of food and non-food goods.
