Boyer Design Day Out
On our yearly Boyer Design Day Out, last Friday the Design Team headed to Poundbury for a refresh on New Urbanism principles that underpin our placemaking approach.
Poundbury is an “urban extension” to the town of Dorchester in Dorset and nationally known to planners, architects and urban designers from all fields as Prince Charles's Model village. It was great to see the 3 builders CG Fry, Morrish and ZeroC still in action as the community takes shape and the place starts to feel more lived in. Alongside walking down memory lane where many in the team started their careers, we analysed good urbanism principles, tenure blind design to private and affordable housing and the craft of developing spaces. As a RIBA Chartered Practice, Continuing Professional Development is an integral part of or work. This visit did not just offer us a day out with colleagues but also refresh on our design approach that unite as a team.
