Boyer achieves Planning Consent for Student Accommodation in Southampton

Boyer are delighted to announce they have secured a resolution to grant planning permission on behalf of Barsad Investments Ltd for 198 units of student accommodation at 6 Hulse Road, Southampton. The resolution was awarded by Southampton City Council on 20 February.

Located under two miles from the city centre, the 3,768.00 sq metre site is currently occupied by St. Margaret's House, a 1960s block which offers 100 student rooms / suites. The existing block will be demolished to create 198 modern, improved student units.

Sustainability is at the forefront of the designs for this development: the building will incorporate biophilic design principles, and if successful in its aim, will be one of the first buildings in Southampton to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating.

Alice Moore, Associate Director in Boyer’s London office said, “Quality student accommodation is in short supply in Southampton, as with so many other cities. In doubling the number of units currently available on the site, this scheme goes some way to meeting the very pressing need. We're extremely pleased to have worked collaboratively with WGP Architects and the wider team on this inspiring project and we look forward to seeing the development coming forward.”

In achieving planning success, Boyer and WGP Architects worked alongside Pryce and Myers (structural engineers), Vector Design (MEP/ services engineers and BREEAM assessors), City Designer (heritage/ townscape/ visual assessment/ design collaboration), Stace LLP (project management), Tyler Grange (ecologists), MJC Tree Services Ltd (arboriculture), Turkington Martin (landscape architects) and Anstey Horne (daylight-sunlight analysis),
