International Women’s Day at Boyer

Boyer celebrated International Women’s Day with an innovative online event, in which women at Boyer talked about their experiences in relation to this year’s themes of equality and equity; MD Andy Williams talked about Boyer’s commitments to creating a supportive environment, and attendees collaborated to create a word cloud on the topic, ‘What do you think are the biggest current barriers to equity in the built environment industry?’

It was encouraging to hear about how women’s experiences had gradually improved over time, with those starting their careers in the 21st century experiencing a very different environment to those working in planning in the 1990s.

There were positive examples of support from male managers within Boyer, and it was similarly encouraging that almost half of the attendees at the event were the company’s male employees with an active interest in an equitable workplace.

While there is still progress to be made in achieving equity, the industry abounds with good examples. Today, not only at Boyer but across the industry, was a great day for shared best practice and hope for the future.
